Starting the Blog – September Recap

Slow but Steady Progress

Another month down and our analytics are continuing to get just a little bit better each month. Our Pinterest traffic has about doubled, but I’m not seeing that flow through to ad revenue yet. I am not going to worry about that yet though. I think the first six months to a year of starting the blog are all about getting traffic to your blog website. Capitalizing on that traffic might happen along the way, but I’ll focus more efforts into that later once I have more traffic.

Samuel and I took a pause in our travels this month, which allowed us to get even more ahead on blog preparation than our one-month in advance target. I think that comes at a good time since we are approaching the holiday season which means we will be spending lots of time visiting family and not as much time working on the blog.

If you are curious about how the first quarter of blogging went, you can read our other Starting the Blog series posts!

I have also linked some of our new Travel Blog Posts that came out this month in case you want to check them out!

Our Updates for Month 4

September was a steady month for our blog. Our analytics increased month over month, and we dedicated a lot of time into making blog posts and preparing Pinterest Pins for the next couple of months. Below are the items I want to update you on this month:

  • Prepping the Content Calendar for the Next 4 Months
  • Prepare October Blogs and Pinterest Pins
  • Website Traffic Analytics
  • Income Report

Updates from Last Month:

  • Update Prior Posts with New Formatting
  • Blog Investments Iā€™m Considering

Update 1 – Prepping the Content Calendar for the Next 4 Months

I’ve shared my content calendar updates with you all over the past couple months and this month is no different! I still like using my Excel file and I added a new “checkbox” column where I can notate if the pins have been created for each blog post. That helps me know where I am at on the Pinterest side of things.

I also used this month to prepare my content calendar for the next few months. I have a list on my phone where I write any blog post ideas that come to me throughout the day, which makes these brainstorming sessions a bit easier since I already have some ideas flowing.

All blog posts are “tentatively” planned from October to the end of January now. That’s about 4 months of content planned out. The reason I did this is because we are about to go into the holiday season and Samuel and I spend a lot of time with family around the holidays. This is just a simple way to lighten the load during the next few months, both on the blog post side and the Pinterest side since I know what’s coming up.
