Rome
Rome is a paradise for food lovers, especially if you’re looking for high-quality cuisine at affordable prices. The city’s culinary scene is deeply rooted in tradition, with dishes like pasta carbonara, cacio e pepe, and amatriciana showcasing simple yet exquisite flavors. Street food is also a highlight, with options like supplì (fried rice balls) and Roman-style pizza providing delicious and budget-friendly meals.
For dessert, nothing beats a gelato enjoyed while strolling through Rome’s picturesque streets or a delicious tiramisu to cap the night!

Paris
Paris, on the other hand, is renowned for its refined and elegant culinary experiences. French cuisine is celebrated worldwide, and Paris is its epicenter. Fresh crepes with homemade chantilly are also amazing and definitely give some extra points to Paris.
While dining in Paris can be expensive, the quality and presentation of the food can make it worth it. For those who appreciate high cuisine and are willing to splurge a bit, Paris is the place to be.

Walkability/Public Transport
Rome
Rome’s historic charm is best experienced on foot. Many of the city’s iconic landmarks, such as the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Pantheon, are within walking distance of each other. However, Rome’s public transportation system, which includes buses, trams, and a metro, can be somewhat chaotic and less reliable than what you might find in other major cities. Walking through Rome’s ancient streets is amazing, but be prepared for the cobblestone alleys and bustling traffic.

Paris

Paris is also very walkable, with many landmarks situated along the scenic Seine River. The combination of reliable public transit and walkable neighborhoods makes getting around Paris a breeze, perfect for travelers who prioritize convenience.

I would say that Rome has an edge on the quality/price ratio when compared to Paris given how easy it is to find a trattoria with traditional cuisine.

The Spanish Steps is a popular meeting point that provides a beautiful panoramic view of the city. Wander through the charming streets of Trastevere, where ivy-clad buildings and lively piazzas create an authentic Roman atmosphere. The Pantheon’s imposing dome and the bustling Campo de’ Fiori market are also great spots to explore!

It is a very clean and dainty city that gives an impression of sophistication and charm.

Rome’s culture is a mix of its ancient heritage and lively contemporary atmosphere. Italians are know for enjoying the dolce vita or “sweet life”. People here are usually friendly but also very passionate about their food and particular on how to enjoy it. For example, if you order a cappuccino after 11am you may get frowned upon. The city’s art and architecture span thousands of years, offering a deep dive into history. The religious traditions, especially with the presence of the Vatican, also play a significant role in the city’s cultural fabric.

Parisian’s have a reputation for being a little snobby and occasionally rude to foreigners, although we did not experience this on our trip. The city has been a center for literature, fashion, and art for centuries. From the avant-garde Marais district to the literary cafes of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Paris breathes creativity. The city’s fashion scene is world-renowned, and its theaters, opera houses, and galleries reflect its deep cultural roots. The city is also very romantic with strolls along the Seine River being unparalleled to any other city!
