A Weekend of Flavor and Fun in New Orleans

New Orleans is a city brimming with culture, history, and of course, some of the best food in the country. We spent a weekend indulging in everything the city has to offer, from mouthwatering po’boys to unforgettable Sazeracs. Here’s how we made the most of our foodie adventure in the Big Easy.

Day 1: Discovering the Flavor of Treme and the Garden District

Stay: French Quarter – Maison Dupuy Hotel
We kicked off our weekend with a stay at the Maison Dupuy Hotel in the French Quarter. Thanks to our Venture X travel card points, we got a fantastic deal on this charming, centrally located hotel. It’s the perfect spot for those who want to explore New Orleans with everything just steps away.

Midday: Soulful Eats in Treme

After checking in, we headed straight to Treme, one of New Orleans’ most historic neighborhoods. Famous for its jazz culture and African American heritage, Treme is also known for its incredible Creole food. We stopped for lunch at Dooky Chase Restaurant, an iconic spot that inspired Disney’s Princess and the Frog. Their fried chicken and gumbo were out of this world, offering a true taste of New Orleans soul food.

With full bellies, we took a leisurely walk around Treme, soaking in the neighborhood’s rich history and vibrant culture. Every street seemed to hum with the spirit of the city.

Evening: Garden District Delights

After a quick coffee break at the trendy Fourth Wall café, we returned to the hotel for some downtime. The hotel’s courtyard was the perfect place to relax and recharge before our night out.

As the evening rolled in, we ventured to the Garden District for dinner at Boil Seafood House. This spot specializes in seafood boils, and we dined on spicy crawfish, shrimp, and crab—a messy, flavorful feast!

For after-dinner drinks, we found ourselves at Basin Seafood and Spirits. Their cocktail list was as impressive as their desserts. We highly recommend the banana cake, which was moist, flavorful, and paired perfectly with a well-crafted Old Fashioned.

Day 2: French Quarter Charm and Garden District Vibes

Morning: A Classic Start in the French Quarter

The next morning, we stayed local, starting our day with an obligatory stop at Café du Monde for beignets and chicory coffee. These powdered sugar-covered delights are a New Orleans classic and a must on any trip to the French Quarter.

Afterward, we strolled around Jackson Square, admiring the historic St. Louis Cathedral and watching street performers. We then wandered down Bourbon Street, where the vibrant, party atmosphere buzzes day and night. Although more subdued in the morning, it’s still worth seeing!

Midday: Exploring Garden District Architecture

We couldn’t resist heading back to the Garden District to see its gorgeous antebellum homes in daylight. The architecture here is simply breathtaking. After some time exploring, we stopped for a refreshing matcha latte at a nearby café before heading to Mahony’s Po-boys and Seafood for lunch. Their po’boys were incredible, packed with flavor and New Orleans flair.

From there, we hopped on one of the city’s famous streetcars for a romantic ride back into the French Quarter, enjoying the views of the city as we made our way back to the hotel.

Evening: A Night in the Warehouse District

In the evening we got ready for a fun night out at an upscale restaurant downtown. We dined at Cochon in the Warehouse District, known for its modern take on Cajun cuisine. Every dish was rich with flavor, and the ambiance was perfect for a special night out. We tried their popular fried alligator appetizer and were surprised how tasty it was!

We wrapped up our evening at Bar Metier, a hidden speakeasy tucked away in the Warehouse District. If you’re in the mood for a classic New Orleans cocktail, this is the place. We couldn’t leave without trying a Sazerac, the city’s most famous cocktail. It was the perfect way to end our weekend of New Orleans dining and discovery.

Conclusion

Our New Orleans weekend was filled with unforgettable meals, historic neighborhoods, and plenty of Southern hospitality. From the vibrant flavors of Treme to the elegant streets of the Garden District, New Orleans is a food lover’s paradise. Whether you’re enjoying beignets in the French Quarter or a Sazerac in a hidden speakeasy, this city offers endless delicious experiences. If you’re planning a trip to New Orleans, hopefully, this blog gives you some tasty inspiration!
